Remuneration Constable (Level I) (R 208 686,56 – R 270 896,51)

Constable (Level I) Recruitment

Eligibility Criteria:
– Age: Candidates must be between 18 and 35 years old.
– Criminal Record: No previous criminal convictions allowed.
– Appointment: Successful candidates will be appointed as Constables, subject to a 12-month probationary period. During this period, candidates must complete and pass the Constable Basic Training Course with at least a 50% pass mark.
– Fingerprints: Successful candidates will be fingerprinted.

– Work Hours: Candidates must be willing to work shifts that cover all hours, including nights. High standards and discipline are required both on and off duty.

Physical Requirements:

– Physical Fitness: Due to the demands of law enforcement and traffic control, candidates must pass a medical examination and demonstrate physical fitness. This includes being able to apprehend and arrest offenders and perform traffic control duties.
– Physical Fitness Assessment: Candidates must pass the physical fitness assessment with a minimum of 40% to proceed. The assessment includes:
– 2.5 km run
– Sit-ups
– Push-ups
– 10 x 25m sprints

 

 

Key Performance Areas:

– Surveillance and Law Enforcement: Conduct armed surveillance of streets and public areas, enforcing laws and addressing issues on patrol.
– Emergency Response: Respond to vehicle accidents, illegal activities, fires, bomb threats, family violence, and rescue operations on land and beach, including airlifts.
– Arrests and Processing: Arrest, detain, question suspects, obtain fingerprints, and secure statements and evidence as required.
– Traffic Control: Direct and control traffic, enforce parking regulations, and bylaws in the absence of a Traffic Warden.
– Court Appearances: Attend court and provide evidence in law enforcement matters.
– Joint Operations: Participate in joint law enforcement exercises and special events with the South African Police Services and South African Defence Forces.
– Emergency Situations: Manage emergencies, disasters, or incidents until specialized agencies arrive.
– Administrative Duties: Undertake administrative tasks and responsibilities in assigned locations such as Communications Centre, Charge Office, Dog Section, Street Child Unit, and Duty Office.

Essential Requirements:

– Education: Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
– Service Qualification: A relevant service-related qualification approved by an authority such as the South African Police Service.
