NATIONAL LIBRARY OF SOUTH AFRICA INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR TRAINEE LIBRARIAN

The goals of the National Library are to contribute to financial, social, cultural, educational, scientific, and innovative development by gathering, recording, preserving, and making accessible the national documentary and advancing awareness and appreciation thereof, by fostering information literacy, and by working with admittance to the world’s data assets. For contract positions as GRAP Trainee Librarians, the NLSA invites applications from qualified individuals. The successful candidates will be based at the Pretoria Campus.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY FOR THE TRAINING:
• NQF level 6 qualification in Library and Information Science or equivalent
• It will be an added advantage to have experience in cataloguing

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Verifying library material physically.
• Conduct quality control of the library material physically verified and investigate all library material not verified based on data on WMS.
• Clearing of exceptions emanating from the physical verification.
• Catalogue books on the WMS system.
• Keeping the stack room clean.
• Keep records of all work done.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
• Ability to work well in a team and independently
• Community literacy
• Knowledge of an Integrated Library Management System.
• Sound judgement and the ability to solve problems.
• Accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability and willingness to learn new skills.
• Ability to work successfully under sustained pressure and should be able to respond to challenges creatively and positively they face.
